420 FUNK MOB

It’s 420 Do You Know Where Your Head Is?

Any time P-Funk Frontman Mike Clip Payne gets the 420 Funk Mob together it’s not just a concert it’s an EVENT.
Now matter the configuration, whether a 6 piece straight up Psychedlic Funk Rock powerhouse or a 24 piece Funkestra with strings, horns, background singers, doubling on keyboards, drummers and sometimes even bass players—you never know whats gonna happen or whose gonna show up. The only thing for certain is a packed house and a night of unforgettable music.
The 420 Funk Mob features an All Star cast of musicians from inside and outside the world of Parliament Funkadelic, a revolving cast of all star musicians that includes members from bands. who’ve backed Bowie, D’Angelo, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outkast, Gene Ween, Amy Winehouse, Lenny Kravitz, Bootsy Collins, Kung Fu, Levon Helm, Greg Allman, label mates DRUGS aka The Mis-Americans and of course Parliament/Funkadelic members.

Come along and be part of history as we make it

“420 Funk Mob and special guest George Clinton killed it at Jazzbones for a sold-out crowd. For those that missed it, there is really nothing like being in a small venue, bathing in funk and basking in the best vibes imaginable. It was likely one of the best gigs this town has ever hosted.”
Paul Scrag – The Volcano

“The Parliament/Funkadelic legacy lives on with the formation of two spin off bands, the 420 Funk Mob and Drugs…….Arranged  with filtered vocals, psychedelic melodies, gut-wrenching rhythms, wha-wha pedals, thick bass lines, and Clips coarse dense tone, the 420 Funk Mob and Drugs sound like a medley between a spunky Grateful Dead, and a Jimi Hendrix style jam session.” University of Miami Hurricane

“Hovering over the fringes of genres, the jam band dips its toes beyond its psychedelic waters, conjuring a sound the Beatles traveled all the way to India for. As harmonies and melodies were abandoned, heavy rhythms took center stage with fiddler Zach Brock (who’s toured with double bass pioneer Stanley Clarke), inching his tiny strings into a heavy jam of layered electricity throughout the night’s set. “Makes Me Scared” stood out as distorted riffs are pushed into the future only to slap you across the face unexpectedly seconds later. Turning down more gigs than they actually play, 420 Funk Mob has kept their sound from becoming overworked or mechanical, preserving it’s raw, natural state. ” – Melissa Caruso, Feast of Music

“What began as a side trip for Parliament-Funkadelic’s Michael Clip Payne has evolved into one of the most versatile jam bands around, a Family Stone-meets-The-Dead vehicle that frees your mind – – so that your ass, of course, can follow. Some of the finest original funk this side of Sly Stone, Larry Graham, and the Godfather of Soul. The 420 Funk Mob melds the sound with some Sixties psychedelia,  a bit of Sun Ra “arkestration,” performed by a revolving cast of former P. Funk members, and masterful musician friends. Jam after jam, style after style, they sync up. One collective under a frequently hypnotic groove”
