WOODSTOCK 55

SUMMER 2024 MARKS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND ARTS

The Summer of 1969, marked a pivotal time in Woodstock’s history. Inspired by the swell of creativity and encouraged by the Sound-Outs (Hosted by Pan Copeland on her land at the border of Woodstock & Saugerties) Michael Lang relocated to Woodstock with a vision to bring the dream of a massive peaceful gathering to the town.

What didn’t end up happening in Woodstock, did change history for more than those who attended and definitely the town. Within days of the festival in Bethel, New York, Woodstock found itself taking in many new neighbors. That particular influx of added countercultural population undoubtedly set a tone that continues to resonate 55 years later.

  1. I am very inspired to see such a blessed vibrant community emerge today from the turbulent ’60’s and to give a home to music and culture that continues to affect and inspire millions like myself every day. I am deeply moved every summer when I play the soundtrack to my life; the 1969 festival which I play for over a week solid from the16th of August on yearly. As an artist, archivist, musician, philosopher, writer, Christian mystic and empath who was born in 1969, I am forever linked to the positive spirit of that specific event which proved that mankind can evolve and lovingly survive and flourish joyfully even in times of disorder and warfare as we still do even today. People of Woodstock, I thank you for receiving so many visitors in1969 with open arms and for all your kind and selfless volunteers .That powerfully showed all mankind that we can all rise above any differences and adversity and recognise that we were and still are all worthy of love and everlasting peace and, differences or not, are truly one and can rise above anything. Thank you for instilling that in me forever and others from my time as well and those to come after us of course. May God forever bless you all for this great gift to mankind . Jeff R.
